Jason & Becky

Hi, we're Becky and Jason--parents to two goofy retrievers. When we're not planning our next trip, trying a new restaurant, or experimenting with a new recipe, you'll probably find us on the couch trying to agree on what to watch. We've built a warm home full of love, laughter, and a little bit of silliness, and would be honored to share it with a child someday.

Why We Chose Adoption

Exploring Seattle Together

We have always dreamed of starting a family. After ten years of marriage and thirteen years together, we knew we were ready. When we found out we couldn't conceive naturally, we turned to medicine and went through many rounds of IUI and IVF. It was a long and difficult road, and along the way we also experienced the pain of miscarriage. That was one of the hardest things we have ever been through. It was a kind of grief that took time to heal from, and we gave ourselves the space to do that.

When we felt ready to try again, our doctor was honest with us. Because of our age and biology, the chances of conceiving again were very low. It was a hard thing to hear, but it also helped us find clarity.

The truth is, adoption was never a last resort for us. It was something we had talked about from the very beginning of our relationship. We always said that if we were meant to grow our family through adoption, we would be just as happy and just as ready. A child doesn't have to come from us to be ours. Love doesn't work that way. We have so much love to give, and we are fully committed to giving it to a child who needs it. Adoption feels like the path we were always meant to take, and we are grateful for it.

Cultural Heritage

Family and culture are incredibly important to us. We are both of Chinese descent — Jason's family is from Hong Kong and Becky's family is from Guangzhou. Jason is third generation Chinese American while Becky is first. Our families have always kept Chinese traditions going strong. Lunar New Year and the Fall Harvest Moon are two of our favorite times of year — big family get-togethers, lots of laughter, and a table full of homemade dishes that have been passed down for generations. Food has always been a big part of how we connect, whether at home or on the road.

Despite honoring our own heritage, growing up in the culture of the Bay Area also imparted a unique mix of values and traditions from our non-Chinese friends and family members. We are grateful for having grown up in a time and place where, through mutual respect and appreciation, people were just seen as people. Our experiences and bonds with these loved ones have enriched our worldview, which we continue to expand through our travels — exploring new places, trying new foods, and learning about different cultures, while also seeing the common thread of humanity between us. More than anything, we hope to raise a child who feels proud of where they come from while also feeling comfortable and curious about the world and people around them.

What it Means to be Parents

To us, being parents means so much more than just taking care of someone. It means being there for the big moments and the small ones, and everything in between. We look forward to the teaching moments — helping a child work through challenges, learn from mistakes, and grow into their potential. We aim to be the guide we wish we had when we were just starting to figure out the world.

Most exciting is the idea of seeing life through a child's eyes again. Kids have a way of finding wonder in things that adults often overlook, and we just can't wait to be able to provide those experiences. We want to show them new places, introduce them to new foods, and provide adventures and challenges that spark lifelong curiosity and learning. Travel has always been a big part of our lives, and we cannot wait to share that sense of adventure with a child someday. We also know that children have as much to teach us as they do to learn. Our goal is to honor their role as a teacher as much as a student's. We aim to grant them the space to develop their own thoughts, ideas, and views on the world -- even ones we may have never considered ourselves. The ultimate goal is to provide them with as much perspective, love, and fond childhood memories we hope they carry for the rest of their lives.

Our Extended Families

Celebrating Christmas

Jason is one of two siblings, with his sister Kim and her fiancé Blake among our closest friends. They live in the same building, with Kim working as a pediatric nurse and Blake as a Support Engineer. Together, they enjoy family time, picnics, dining out, and exploring the city. Jason’s parents, Anne and Gordon, live nearby and spend their retirement close to family—often jokingly urging him to give them grandchildren. Coming from a large extended family, Jason grew up surrounded by cousins, with holidays and gatherings forming some of his most cherished memories.

Our Family

Becky’s family is smaller but just as close-knit. Her brother Simon is a Test Engineer based in Shanghai, while her parents, Julie and Henry, are retired and live nearby. Julie loves to travel and is always planning her next adventure, while Henry frequently visits China to see family. Becky clearly inherited her passion for travel from them. What defines this family is its balance of tradition and openness to new experiences. Family is central to their lives, and they take every opportunity—whether through Chinese traditions or American holidays—to get together. Food is always at the heart of these gatherings, accompanied by stories, an abundance of opinons, and laughter. The grandparents especially cherish welcoming new members into the family, with the idea of grandchildren bringing them even greater joy.

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Dogs

We live in the Outer Sunset, a unique neighborhood with a beachy, suburban feel while still being close enough to all of San Francisco's trappings. Just a few blocks from Ocean Beach and Golden Gate Park, nature meets us in every direction. Our dogs know every park in the area very well, Fort Funston being their favorite — an off-leash dog recreation area consisting of sand dunes along the shore!

Home Sweet Home

The neighborhood itself is full of young families, block parties, and kids riding bikes outside. There are also lots of great restaurants, coffee shops, and local shops to check out. Our personal favorites are DamnFine for pizza and Leo's taco truck when we're in the mood for Mexican. The location is perfect--whether it's wanting a change of scenery downtown or visiting our parents, they are all only 30 minutes away.

Our home is a spacious, bright, and warm three-bedroom, two-bathroom flat on the first floor with a large yard where we and the dogs love to spend time enjoying the sun. We've put a lot of love into making it feel like a real home. You will typically find us relaxing with the dogs in the living room, catching up on the latest shows, or in the kitchen where something good is always cooking. It's a calm and comfortable space that is waiting for more love to fill it.

From Us to You

Dear Expectant Mother,

We want to start by saying thank you. We know this isn't an easy road, and we have so much respect for the love and courage it takes to be where you are right now. The fact that you're reading this and thinking so carefully about your child's future says everything about who you are. We just want you to know who we really are in return. We’re not picture perfect, just two real people with a whole lot of love and a home that's been waiting for a child to fill it.

We are Becky and Jason. We've known each other since first grade, since we were six years old. We lost touch after fifth grade, went off and lived our separate lives, and then became friends again during an elementary school reunion after college. We've been together ever since. Thirteen years together, married for ten of them. We like to think the universe had a plan for us, even when we weren't paying attention.

We always knew we wanted kids. That part was never a question. What we didn't expect was how hard the road to getting here would be. Infertility has been part of our story, and it's been really tough at times. But it also made us stronger and more sure that we were meant to be parents. Adoption isn't something we landed on after everything else failed. It's where we are supposed to be.

We both work in healthcare IT — Becky on the education side, Jason in support. We spend our days trying to make complicated things easier for people. Communication is a big part of what we do, and we’ve gotten pretty good at it. We're patient, we're steady, and we don't panic when things get hard. We're hoping those turn out to be decent parenting qualities too.

At home, life is pretty relaxed. We like to cook — we like trying new recipes or attempting to recreate something we had at a restaurant we loved. It doesn't always turn out exactly right, but that's half the fun. Becky likes to bake too, when there's actually time for it. Most evenings you'll find us on the couch with our two dogs, watching whatever show we're currently obsessed with. It's simple and it's ours, and we wouldn't trade it.

We also love to travel. We like to see new places as locals would, we try to find the little family restaurant down the alley, try the thing we can't pronounce, talk to people, get a little lost. We've been lucky enough to do a lot of that together, and we can't wait to show our child the world the same way.

We’re excited to connect with you in whatever way feels right for you. We’re happy to provide letters and photos. We’re also happy to connect by email or phone calls, even visits if that’s something you’d want. We just want you to feel comfortable and to know that your child is loved.

Thank you for reading this. Thank you for considering us. We don't have the words for what this means to us.

With love,

Jason & Becky
